Carbon footprint
Take a positive step for our environment.
We are all becoming more aware of the damaging effects of our ‘carbon footprint’, which is why we’re offering you an easy way to help offset the environmental impact of your lifestyle.
This benefit uses your money to reduce carbon emissions by supporting carbon reduction projects - from renewable energy generation to energy efficient cook-stoves in developing countries. In addition to its carbon reduction strategy, Aviva as a company has already taken responsibility for its own carbon footprint by offsetting the energy it uses on business travel and its buildings. In 2006 Aviva was the first insurance company to become carbon neutral in terms of its global emissions.

What is it?
This benefit gives you a quick and easy way to offset some or all of the environmental impact of your lifestyle by paying a voluntary contribution each month. It effectively means you can take responsibility for the carbon emissions created when you heat your home, take a flight or drive your car by paying ClimateCare to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere on your behalf, through approved carbon-reduction projects.
How it works
- Choose the contribution level that is right for your lifestyle by using the three levels in the table below as a rough guide.
- When you enrol, you will be asked to enter the amount per month you wish to contribute in order to offset your carbon footprint – a minimum of £1 (in increments of £1). It’s as simple as that.
- If you’ve previously selected this benefit through my Aviva flex and you’re happy with the monthly amount you don’t need to do anything at annual enrolment, the benefit will simply continue as before.
We have outlined three levels of offsetting in the table below as a rough guide to help you decide how much you want to contribute:
| Offset level | Monthly contribution guide | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Self | Self & partner | Family | |
| Eco-warrior - You have super-insulated your home, installed micro-generation technology, never fly on holiday, grow your own veggies in your back garden and use your bicycle more than your car. | £3 | £6 | £9 |
| Regular Light Green - You might commute a few miles to work in your car and use it regularly for shopping, have taken some steps towards energy efficiency in your home, such as installing energy efficient light bulbs when they need replacing, have a new efficient boiler and you recycle regularly. You might also take one foreign holiday per year, short-medium haul. | £6 | £12 | £18 |
| Frequent Traveller - You are like the Regular Light Green user except you might commute long distances by car to work, you might also frequently fly short-medium haul (2-3 times a year) and even perhaps take one long-haul flight every year or two. | £11 | £22 | £33 |
