How it works

  • Think about how much you regularly spend on shopping each month for things like food, clothes, household goods etc. and decide how much you want to load on to your card - from £10 up to a maximum of £1,000 per month.
  • You will be able to adjust the monthly amount you pay at any time within these limits through the flex system. The card can only be cancelled during the annual flex enrolment window, and must be held for at least 12 months.
  • There is a monthly administration charge of £1.50 per card and you can choose to take a card for your partner for an additional charge of 90p per month.
  • You can use your card in any of the participating retailers, spending as much or as little as you like each month, as long as you remain within the card balance. You don't need to stick to the same shops all the time - as long as they are participating in the scheme your savings will automatically be added to your card the following month.
  • You can top-up your balance to a maximum of £5,000, for a one-off charge of 50p if you want to benefit from the retailer discount on bigger purchases like a flat screen TV, new fridge or summer holiday.
  • If you’ve previously selected this benefit through my Aviva flex and you’re happy with the monthly amount you don’t need to do anything at annual enrolment, the benefit will simply continue as before.
  • For general questions about this benefit, you can call the my Aviva flex helpline on 0800 917 2310.

Key points to consider

  • Are you planning any big purchases over the year where you could save even more money?
  • You will need to keep the card for at least 12 months, and the card can only be cancelled during the annual flex enrolment window. If you cancel the card less than 12 months after you selected it, you will be charged the outstanding administration fees for the 12 month period.
  • How much do you typically spend in the retailers participating in the scheme each month?
  • How much could you save if you used your card to make these purchases?

What happens next

If you're selecting this benefit for the first time, in the month following enrolment you will be sent your card and PIN under separate cover, along with details on how to activate your card, check your balance online and make top-ups.

Sue

I typically spend about £400 a month on groceries for my family – about £360 in Sainsbury’s and £40 in Threshers. By putting that all on my card, I’ll save over £200 this year, which I can put towards a weekend away.

Jenny

My boyfriend and I are doing up our flat, so I regularly spend about £100 a month on paint and new bits and pieces in Homebase and Argos as well as my usual weekly shop. By putting it all on my Aviva flex card, I can save for something really special for our new home.

Heidi

I normally spend about £100 a month on clothes, music and books on top of my weekly food shopping. By putting all that on my card, I can save money towards a holiday in Malta with the girls and use the top-up facility to book my holiday with Thomas Cook and save even more.

Dave

I’m into computer games and sports and spend roughly £50 a month in Halfords and PC World and £75 in JJB Sports. I’m now saving up for a golf driver with the money I save by putting it all on my Aviva flex card.
