At a glance
What is it?
RAC breakdown cover will help you if your car breaks down at any time of the day or night. As an RAC member, you can call the helpline to ask for emergency assistance to get you back on the road. The cover applies to you rather than your car, which means you’ll be covered for any vehicle you’re travelling in as the driver or passenger (non-commercial vehicles only and excluding certain vehicle types).
How it works
- Decide which level of cover will be best for you and your family and make your selection on the enrolment site.
- If you've previously selected this benefit through my Aviva flex and you want to continue you don't need to do anything at annual enrolment, the benefit will simply continue as before at the price quoted for renewal.
You can choose from three levels of cover:
- Roadside & Recovery
- Roadside, Recovery & At Home
- Roadside, Recovery, At Home & Onward Travel
For each level of cover you can choose to take ‘single’, ‘joint’ or ‘family’ cover. Please note that Joint or Family members must live in the same household.
The table below outlines the three levels of cover you can select:
| Roadside, Recovery | Roadside, Recovery, At Home | Roadside, Recovery, At Home, Onward Travel | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roadside Assistance: RAC will fix your car at the roadside, as long as you are over a quarter of a mile away from home. If in the unlikely event that they can't fix it, they'll tow you to an approved garage within 10 miles. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Nationwide Recovery: The RAC Nationwide recovery promise means that they’ll transport your vehicle, you and up to seven others to your destination anywhere in the UK. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| At Home: RAC will come to your assistance if your car won't start when you're home or if you break down within a quarter of a mile of your house. | No | Yes | Yes |
| Onward Travel: You’ll get a replacement car for up to 3 days while yours is being fixed. Or RAC will provide overnight accommodation or onward travel. | No | No | Yes |
- Details of monthly charges for each benefit are available when you log in.
- For general questions about this benefit, you can call the my Aviva flex helpline on 0800 917 2310.

Key points to consider
- How old is your car and is it reliable – for instance, does it start OK in cold weather?
- Do you have breakdown cover and if not, do you need it?
- Have you thought about what will happen if your car breaks down unexpectedly?
- What types of journey do you usually make? Is it important that you could get home or to your final destination quickly if you experienced problems?
What happens next
